National Nurses Day, celebrated on May 6, genuinely honors the indispensable role nurses play in healthcare.

Often the first and last face a patient sees, nurses are the unsung heroes of the medical world. The recognition of their vital contributions began in February 1974, when President Nixon proclaimed a National Nurse Week to be observed annually in May.

The unwavering efforts of various nursing organizations, including the American Nurses Association (ANA), culminated in the establishment of “National Recognition Day for Nurses” on May 6, officially proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1982.
